Consultant/Senior Consultant

Responsibilities (full-time position)

CPG has an immediate opening for a full-time Consultant with three or more years experience in the financial services industry.

  • Deliver the highest-quality consulting support to CPG clients and build loyalty with senior managers at client companies.
  • Assume project manager role for client engagements including directing the consulting team, developing project calendars and budgets, and completing deliverables by agreed upon deadlines and within budget.
  • Conduct and direct analysts to develop detailed market, product, customer, and business performance analytics; interpret findings and participate in the development of recommendations and presentations to clients.
  • Stay abreast of developments within the financial services industry and contribute to the development of the firm’s thought leadership.
  • Organize and lead research on customer needs and preferences and geographic market and other growth opportunities using third party research, CPG’s in-house Nielsen database, CPG’s in-house SNL database, and key industry contacts.
  • Work with CPG’s partner companies when needed to obtain subject matter expertise, proprietary research support, and data/analytics.
  • Assist partners to respond to new business opportunities including researching companies and industries, writing proposals, preparing presentations and other new business efforts.
  • Participate in business development presentations and meetings as appropriate.
  • Actively present ideas to expand service offering and enhance positioning of the firm.
  • Support the business development activities of the firm through speaking at industry conferences and contributing articles to industry trade publications.

Qualified Consultant Candidates must have:

  • 5-10 years experience working in the financial services industry in areas such as marketing, marketing research, finance, operations, consumer banking, or commercial banking. Work experience may be with an insured-depository, with one of the federal regulatory agencies, with a marketing research firm, or with a consulting firm.
  • Experience in working as part of a team and on team projects, experience managing projects and analyst work, and a demonstrable record of delivering results.
  • A strong academic record, including a minimum overall GPA of 3.4 (GPA must be included in resume to be considered for the position). An MBA from a top tier business school is a plus.
  • Well-developed analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Familiarity with finance, accounting, regulatory, and marketing issues within the context of the financial services industry.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office software including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience working with SNL and/or Highline financial institutions databases and Nielsen/Claritas databases a plus.
  • An aptitude and eagerness to learn.
  • A high level of ethical integrity.
  • Note that the position does entail domestic travel.  Travel time is estimated at 30%; 1-2 days per week.

Business Analyst

Responsibilities (full-time position)

CPG’s Business Analysts enter a 2+ year program with the firm designed to enable the Analyst to move into a Consultant position or enter a top graduate school program.  We offer a unique combination of work experience, skills training, and professional mentoring.  At CPG, you will:

  • Learn business strategy in ways that no book can ever teach and interact with senior managers at dozens of client companies with different competitive challenges.
  • Hone your analytical skills to support decisions at the CEO and senior executive level that have direct impact on our client’s success. These skills will serve you well for the rest of your career.
  • Develop and make client presentations, learning how to communicate the results of your research and analyses to senior executives in concise and compelling ways.
  • Write detailed reports on the industry and become a published author/industry analyst. In your first year at CPG, you will take responsibility for the firm’s annual Top Performing Banks studies published by the American Bankers Association.  These reports are read by thousands of senior bankers across the globe every year.

Analysts are critical members of our client engagement teams.  As such, analysts take the lead role in generating required research and analytics and take part in brainstorming sessions with the consulting staff and our clients.  CPG’s Business Analysts gain exposure to both the consulting and financial services industries.  The analysis you work on might include:

  • Manipulating and analyzing data pertaining to customers and the markets in which our client’s compete to find opportunities for growth and improved profitability.
  • Conducting secondary research on industry topics and trends, including strategies, products and services, value propositions, and operational advantages of major financial services companies.
  • Analysis of company-specific news, performance, and developments to inform business development activities for the firm.
  • Development of spreadsheet models to quantify the financial impact of business initiatives and the effects of consulting team recommendations.
  • This position does require travel to client locations across the United States (approximately 10% to 20% of your time).  You can keep your miles and your Amex points!

Candidates for CPG’s Business Analyst Program must have:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, business, or related quantitative disciplines. Classes in money and banking, accounting, marketing, and statistics are strongly desired.
  • Well-developed analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel.
  • An aptitude and eagerness to learn.
  • The ability to manage several assignments concurrently.
  • A high level of interest in the financial services industry.
  • A high level of ethical integrity.
  • 1-3 years experience as a marketing or financial analyst is a plus. Comfort building quantitative models is also a plus.
